Over the past few years California teacher-leaders have worked with Cisco Systems and Cisco Networking Academy staff to establish three high quality courses that align with industry certifications and that focus on cyber-security. These courses when taken as a sequence represent a program of study that will enable students to earn industry certification and acquire the knowledge and skills needed for entry-level networking jobs. Because our 21st century economy runs on digital networks organizations of all kinds depend on a workforce educated to design, build and operate secure networks.
The following Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) Networking pathway courses have all received University of California Office of the President (UCOP) g-elective credit:
- IT Essentials
- Internet Engineering I
- Internet Engineering II
IT Essentials
Cyber Security 1 course developed by Colton-Redland-Yucaipa Regional Occupation Program (CRY-ROP) aligns with the CISCO IT Essentials course which covers fundamental computer and career skills for entry-level IT jobs. This course gives students working knowledge of how computers operate, and how data moves using hardware and software. Students develop critical thinking and complex problem-solving skills and are able to earn foundational certifications such as: CompTIA A+ Certification.
