With the emergence of online courses and blended learning environments, students and classroom teachers need access to the Internet. Unfortunately, because of the current fiscal crisis, it is unlikely the California legislature will allocate funds that will enable all students to have access to the Internet at school. If you need computer equipment and are unsuccessful in finding free laptops, you might consider buying excellent laptops that are used, refurbished and have a warranty.
Last year at the Computer Using Educators conference I met John Gerits, Marketing Manager for Insight Investments’ Systems Exchange division, and learned that his company, located in Garden Grove California, provides like-new computers to school children across America. John explained that Insight Investments leases state of the art computer equipment to large corporations and when the lease is over the computers are refurbished and sold with a 3-year warranty.
Reusing technology is a very “green” way of doing business and gives a purchasing advantage to schools that are looking for the best deal on computer equipment. To hear first hand about this company’s mission to support schools, I recommend you watch this brief video message from Insight Investments John Gerits on how Insight Systems Exchange provides like-new computers to school children across America.
John supported our update of Career Technical Education standards by actively participating as an Industry Representative. He is very interested in supporting K-12 education and has agreed to arrange for local schools to tour the Garden Grove facility where students can observe how the equipment is received, refurbished and tested. Contact John by email at jgerits@insightinvestments.com for more information about school tours.
Because Insight Investment does so much business, it is possible to fill a very large order with the same laptops and same configuration. This is important for technical support at the school site. I recommend you consider buying laptops because they are a “complete” system, as powerful as the workstations we have in the typical school computer lab, and mobile.
