Igniting Genius and Lighting the Spark for All

The UC Davis Center for Integrated Computing and STEM Education (C-STEM Center) has had a “break-out” year and is having a great impact on K-14 education and workforce development.  Recently the C-STEM has become a UC Approved Educational Preparation Program as well as gaining the UC A-G program status.  With these two accomplishments, C-STEM leadership anticipates exponential growth in adoptions and implementation of the integrated C-STEM curriculum state wide.

On Sunday, November 9th, 2014, the C-STEM Center will hold the 4th Annual Conference on Integrated Computing and STEM Education at the UC Davis Conference Center.

The conference theme: Igniting Genius: Lighting the Spark for All, emphasizes the C-STEM Center’s two key objectives:

  • Close the achievement gap by broadening participation of students traditionally underrepresented in computing and STEM related careers and post-secondary study.
  • Develop students’ 21st century problem-solving skills to tackle real world concerns through integrated computing and STEM education.

Funded by three National Science Foundation programs, the C-STEM Center has been actively engaged in developing computing and robotics technology and curricula as well as in professional development and implementation in K-12 schools.  Through this conference, attendees will learn more about the C-STEM Center, its research work to date and the rich set of resources available to educators and students for Integrated Computing and STEM Education in formal, after school, and informal settings.

The conference provides a forum for a dedicated cohort of C-STEM partner teachers, K-14 researchers, educators, policy makers, and industrial partners to discuss and influence the future direction of integrated computing and STEM education.

I highly recommend attendance at this event for those considering adopting pathways that include curriculum that integrates with math, robotics and programming.
