Online and blended learning offer incredible new opportunities for teachers and students. It will take time and resources to fully develop and transform how learning takes place at the classroom level, and an “openness” to embrace the paradigm shift from traditional, to blended, to online teaching and learning. But change is coming because the benefits and cost-effectiveness of online education are profound.
I wanted you to know there are three new Web resources, including a California Directory of Online Schools and Programs, Frequently Asked Questions Related to K-12 Online Education in California and Glossary of Terms Related to Online Education are now available from http://pubs.cde.ca.gov/tcsii/onlineeducation/onlineeducindex.aspx/. A fourth resource will be released in the fall that updates kindergarten through grade twelve online policies and practices. “The State of Online Education in California” report will summarize digital education research, outline current policy challenges, and provide models of online instruction.
